Eritrea: Wide spread arrest of college students reported

 

(Asmara 17/06/2015) Freedom Friday Activists (Arbi Harnet) inside Eritrea are reporting that there has been a spate of arrests in the Capital and the surrounding towns over the last few days. Many suspect that the arrests are related to unease spreading as a result of the recent UN Commission of Inquiry report, however as no one is given reason for detention this cannot be ascertained at present.

 

Arrests are said to have targeted students at Mai-Nefhi Institute of Technology, where several students are known to have been detained. Additional arrests are also reported in Edaga-Hamus and Akria in Asmara as well as around the main bus station in the Capital.

 

Activists said they are keeping an eye on the situation and will send updates of developments as they emerge.
