Protest stikers on Government Officials’ cars and many buildings and street corners in Asmara
(Asmara 01-11-2013) Team Arbi Harnet (Freedom Friday) in Eritrea have this morning posted many stickers with the president’s face in a rat’s body in an operation they nick named ‘Rat chase Asmara!’.
The stickers that were smuggled in to the country, are familiar to diaspora activists who have been using them at protest events since the President’s visit to the UN General Assembly in Sept 2011.
The team who spent several months liaising with their diaspora counterparts, discussing possibilities and potential implications were finally able to post the stickers on many government cars parked around town as well as near bars and schools in the city.
This morning stickers were spotted in the bus depot in Edaga Hamus, in the area known as Mai Jahjah, outside Bar Royal, outside the Eritro-German Club and several schools, particularly at the Hamid Idris Awate School, a school named in honour of a fighters who pioneers the Eritrean struggle for independence.
Members of the Team are really pleased with the outcomes of their campaign and said: ‘this is a good start and a significant addition to the on-going campaign’.
Coordinators of the campaign in the diaspora would like to thank all those who participated in providing the image, facilitating the printing and smuggling of the stickers.
